Today’s Outfit Idea: The Yin & Yang of Black (and White) Friday
All right, all you ladies who push your style aside because you’re too dang busy just trying to get your kids or your partner or yourself out the door in the morning – the Fastionista is here to ease your style fear.
Today I’m feeling a little split, since half my day will be spent working, and half my day will be spent playing. To get a little harmony between the working me and the playing me, I’m turning to my wardrobe (which is really where I turn whenever I’m seeking peace in my life). And it just so happens that for a couple weeks now I’ve been hearing about the B&W trend; I think it’s fitting I turn my Black Friday into my own personal Black & White Friday. So here’s what’s in my closet today:
For Work:
· Black Cropped Trousers: These pants are hemmed just above the ankles and have a satiny finish to combine a casual cut with a sleek style.
· Black Silk-Front Top: The silk mimics the sheen of my trousers, and per the tucking trend this fall, I’ll tuck the front of my top in while letting the back stay out. My top is short-sleeved, and the black-on-black creates that silhouette look that’s not only hot right now but maintains the line of my figure under my…
· White Tuxedo Jacket: Black satin lapels continue the shine motif, and all the black I have going on actually has a slimming effect despite the not-so-slimming white of my jacket. The darting and seaming on my jacket also help keep my look streamlined.
· SHOES!: Since my trousers are cropped to the ankle, I can wear a simple black flat, with white detailing at the toe.
For Play:
· Black Jeans: These jeans have a satin finish too, but even though their sheen will make me feel fabulous, since they’re denim they’ll put me in a more playful mood than my trousers. These also sport a cropped hemline.
· Black and White Abstract Pattern Top: Just because I’m sticking with the B&W doesn’t mean I can’t work a pattern in. My three-quarters-length sleeve mimics the crop on my pants, and the fit hugs my figure with a faux wrap in front.
· SHOES!: All-black sneakers can lend a smidge of drama and edge to an otherwise playful outfit, while keeping the feet comfy enough to run around all day long.
And for Both Work and Play:
· Accessories: I’m going with a wide headband that’s got a black and white houndstooth design in it (yes, the pattern will work with my abstract top); a slim white belt with silver buckle; and I’ll finish with small white hoop earrings outlined in silver.
· Purse: My slouchy white satchel works perfectly here, and just to add one final splash of visual interest, I may just weave a thin white sparkly scarf around the shoulder strap.
Voila! There you have it: great fashion fast. And you, gorgeous lady, are ready to take on the world, Fastionista Style!
